The Ontario Network of Needleworkers (ONN) began in 1983 and has grown to include 24 stitchery guilds across the province, representing over 1,000 members.
ONN was formed;
- to encourage communication among guilds and groups of needleworkers
- to share information about available resources; teachers, speakers, suppliers, etc.
- to have an awareness of travelling instructors, to coordinate visits and to share costs on some ventures
- to help raise the profile of needlework to the general public *
The business portion of the AGM is held in the morning, carrying on into the afternoon with some networking projects in the afternoon.
A wonderful luncheon is supplied for approx. 100 stitchers.
Each guild sets up a table displaying some of the work that their guild was involved with in the past year. These displays are open to the public from 10am - 4pm.

Connections Fibre Artists sent 2 delegates this year, Sharron Begg and and Ann Sanders, with Susan Strachan Johnston sitting with our display and answering any questions of the general public. Our member, Elizabeth Duggan Litch was wearing another hat that day as she heads up Threadworks and has outlined a slightly different ONN affair next year as we celebrate 30 years.
*Threadworks is a tri-annual, juried, travelling show that began as a special project of ONN and the first was called Threadworks '87 at the Wellington County Museum & Archives. The WCM&A has remained the host for this juried, tri-annual, traveling show.
It began as a way to showcase the best needlework of the guilds that belonged to ONN.
It soon became apparent that other needleworkers from across Canada were also interested in such a show and it was approved that it should be open to residents of Canada. It also began to travel to local museums who expressed interest in having the show at their galleries which would spread fibre art/stitchery to many who might not otherwise be able to see these wonderful works. Those galleries and museums looked forward to the added traffic that needlework brought to their galleries. and always booked the next show in advance
Each year brought a new theme and stitchers developed their art to comply with the theme.
The Threadworks Juried Traveling Show grew and spread around Ontario and now travels for 2 1/2 years ... just in time to get home before the next show was up and running and on the road.
The next Threadworks Juried Travelling Show is in 2013 and the theme is 'WATER' ... call for entries are available for downloading at www.guelpharts.ca/threadworks .
